The 27th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Organization (AIPO)
General Assembly
10-15 September 2006 in Cebu City , the Philippines
Since its establishment in 1977, AIPO has regularly
convened its General Assembly. The host of the said meeting is base of
rotation in alphabetical order amongst its member and special observer
countries. The Member of AIPO consists of 8 (eight) countries namely
Cambodia , Indonesia , Laos , Malaysia , the Philippines , Singapore ,
Thailand and Vietnam . Whereas for Special Observer countries comprised
of Brunei Darussalam and Myanmar .
In
spite of the diversity in their backgrounds, this meeting has been an
important forum for ASEAN Member and Special Observer Countries to find
common ground for interaction and understanding as evidenced by the
wide range of issues in the Politic, Economic, Social, Organizational
and Woman. Those issues in AIPO have been discussed in Committee
Meetings on Political Matters, Economic Matters, Social Matters,
Organizational Matters and Women Parliamentarians of AIPO (WAIPO)
Matters, respectively. Moreover, AIPO General Assembly also set the
agenda to have the dialogue between the AIPO Member and Special
Observer Countries with the Observer Countries namely, Australia ,
Canada , China , European Parliament, Japan , New Zealand , Papua New
Guinea , Russian Federation and Republic of Korea on the topics agreed
upon. This dialogue have established a network of relationships, closer
contacts and understanding among the parliamentarians of the AIPO
Member and Special Observer Countries in one side and the Observer
Countries in another side.
As
agreed upon by the 26 th AIPO General Assembly held in Vientiane, Laos
the delegates of the 26 th AIPO General Assembly accepted the kind
offer of the House of Representatives of the Republic of the
Philippines to host the 27 th AIPO General Assembly to be convened on
10 to 15 September 2006 in Cebu City, the Philippines. The General Information, Tentative Program of Activities, Agenda Items and Registration Form of the 27 th AIPO General Assembly are provided herewith for further information. Please read Advisory to all AIPO Member Countries, open the
