A. PARLIAMENT SITTINGS
The third meeting of the
Fourth Session of the Eleventh Parliament of Malaysia was held from August
to December 2007. Nineteen (19) Bills including five new legislations were
passed during this meeting.
The new legislations were:
i. Bank Pertanian Malaysia Act 2007;
ii. International Trade
in Endangered Species Act 2007;
iii. Persons with
Disabilities Act 2007;
iv. Northern Corridor
Implementation Authority Act 2007;
v. East Coast Economic
Region Development Council Act 2007
There was also an amendment
to the Federal Constitution i.e. Article 114 (3) to extend the retirement
age of a member of the Election Commission to sixty-six years instead of
sixty-five.
B. VISITS AND CONFERENCES
The Parliament of Malaysia
had welcomed visits by:
1. H.E. Peter Milliken,
Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada from 3 to 9 November
2007
2. H.E. Jiang Enzhu,
Chairman of the Foreign Committee of the Tenth National People’s Congress
(NPC) of the People’s Republic of China on 3 December
2007
3. Members of the National
Assembly Service Commission (NASC) of the Federal Republicof Nigeria on 14 December 2007
4. H.E. Song Baorui, Vice
Chairman of the Sub-committee for Handling Proposals, National Committee of
Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) of the People’s
Republic of China on 17 December 2007
The
visiting delegates held meetings with their Malaysian counterparts and
officials on various regional issues and exchanged parliamentary
information.
The Parliament of Malaysia
also sent delegations to participate in the following overseas conferences
and visits:
1. Official visit by the
President of Senate, H.E. Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr. Abdul Hamid Pawanteh to
the French Republic from 5 to 8 November 2007

C. ANNOUNCEMENT
Mdm. Roosme Hamzah has become the first woman Secretary
General of the House of Representatives, Parliament of Malaysia replacing
Datuk Mahmood bin Adam effective from 26 December 2007
