SUMMARY REPORT
ON THE ACTIVITIES OF THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY OF THE KINGDOM OF CAMBODIA DURING THE PERIOD
OCTOBER -
DECEMBER 2007
The National Assembly of the
Kingdom of Cambodia (NAKC) led by its President, Samdech Akkar Moha Ponhea
Chakrei Heng Samrin, performed significant activities both locally and
internationally.
Internally, there were 21
Draft laws adopted, such as Civil Law, Law on Bankruptcy, Educational Law,
Law on Disaster Management and Emergency Response, Law on Suppressing Human
Trafficking and Sexual Exploitation, Law on Protection Natural Area and
Food Security, Law on Medical Management, Law on Framework Agreement and
Protocol for Free-Trade Area ASEAN-China, Law on Framework Agreement for
Free-Trade Area ASEAN-Korea and Law on Financial Management 2007 and 2008.
In addition, (NAKC) also
warmly welcomed official visits by parliamentary delegations from various
countries to the Kingdom of Cambodia in order
to strengthen relationships, to improve cooperation, exchange experience
and discuss matters of mutual interests and understanding. For instance,
the visit of Rt. Hon. Ann Clwyd, a Member of Parliament and President of
the British IPU Group, visit of H.E. Mr. SOMBATH YILIHER, member of Central
Laos People’s Revolution Party, official visit of Mr. THEIN SEIN, President
of Myanmar, and Mr. DONG LIANGTIAN, Chinese representative and Vice President
of the Committee on Religion, Education, Technology, Culture and Health.
In international affairs,
(NAKC) attended international conferences and paid official parliamentary
visits to its counterparts. Samdech Akkar Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin,
President of the (NAKC) led Cambodian parliamentary delegations to Japanfor an official Friendship Visit,
while the other MPs also paid official visits to China and India.
Besides the above official visits, our MPs participated in two seminars,
four conferences, one convention and one training session, such as the Women
Deliver Conference in London, 107th IPU General Assembly in Geneva,
Switzerland, Conference on Education for Promoting Women and Children
for Development in China, 25th Conference on Engineering Energy and
the Environment: Ensuring Survival of Future Generation in the
Philippines, 8th Training Session on Paying Attention to
Women in Politics, etc.
Besides the above fruitful
activities, in the meantime the Executive Committee was also very active in
compiling draft bills. Twenty (20) bills were drafted including Food
Security, Suppressing Human Trafficking and Sexual Exploitation, National
Budget for 2007 - 2008, ASEAN Framework Agreement on Multi-Transportation,
Civil Aviation, Free-Trade Area Agreement for ASEAN-Korea, etc., which were
handed over to relevant commissions to be submitted to the plenary session.
