AT THE AIPA SECRETARIAT

The staff of the Secretariat, Executive Secretary, Mrs. I Gusti Ayu Darsini accompanied by Executive Assistant, Mr. Sjofjan Noor and Coordinator Clerk, Mr. Edy Suhardi attended the Extraordinary Meeting of the Executive Committee held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 16th to 19th April 2007. The Secretariat assisted in many aspects of the preparations for the meeting.

The Executive Secretary, Mrs. I Gusti Ayu Darsini and Executive Assistant, Mr. Sjofjan Noor of the Secretariat represented AIPA at the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) 116th Assembly held in Nusa Dua, Bali, Indonesia from 29th April to 4th May 2007. Participation of AIPA as an Observer in IPU conferences is important in strengthening the ties between the two parliamentary organizations.

The new permanent Secretary General of AIPA, Hon. Dato’ Md. Yusoff bin Md. Zain arrived in Jakarta on 10th May 2007 and assumed his duties at the Secretariat. During his first three weeks, the new permanent Secretary General paid courtesy calls on the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Indonesia, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia, Chairman of the Indonesian Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation, Chairman of Dewan Pimpinan Daerah (DPD) of Indonesia, Chairman of the Consultative Assembly of Indonesia and the Secretary General of the Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat (DPR) of Indonesia. The Secretary General thus far had called on the Ambassador of Malaysia and met all the other ASEAN Ambassadors and Charge d’ Affaires, a.i. at diplomatic functions and the official functions of the Indonesian government.
